FACING NATURE
ArtPrize 2026
Sept 12 - Oct 3, 2026

Mysterious View, oil on canvas, 36"H x 48"W x 2"D
Inspired by a real tree and its incredible exposed root system in Colorado. Although remote, many have come before and will after. The rock is built on an incredible foundation - very metaphorical.

My landscape art faces nature in a surreal way, beckoning the viewer to look closer. First impressions are not necessarily final, there can be much more within the traditional scape. Our world is rife with people, and so is my art. I see faces in random patterns or clouds. As I paint, new images can emerge that I bring forth. Complex trees, roots, or water are implanted with secondary images punctuating that nature is alive. It can surprise, fluctuate, and perplex, connecting us to our past, present, and future.
Although my subject matter is a manipulation of nature, I consistently draw inspiration from the natural world and what we see; hope, life, growth, dormancy, and death. I cultivate my art like life itself, inspired by colors, feeling, or place. I dream there can be genuine appreciation for our connectedness to each other, and I strive to encourage dialogue through landscapes without limit. |
