BIO
American fine artist and surrealist Rosanne Coty opens doors to her limitless realm, extending an invitation to witness a world rife with vision. Rosanne’s first oil series, Bottle, was inspired by light passing through overlapped colored glass and her desire to capture the vibrancy. Her extensive figurative series, Perception V Reality, utilizes reflection literally and metaphorically to contrast women’s external appearance and their internal emotional state. COVID-19 inspired three powerful works, then a shift toward nature and the outdoors through a Branching Out series. Now embracing surrealism, she utilizes nature as artistic metaphor to encourage contemplation and connectedness to a landscape without limit.
Rosanne earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Aquinas College and the Kendall School of Design. She has taught Continuing Studies classes with Kendall, and has provided private and community education instruction to share her art enjoyment with all ages. Coty has shown throughout the mid-west, New York, Texas, Italy's Coca Prize, and in the Global Competition, Art in the Time of Corona™. She was awarded a First Place People's Choice Award in Mount Pleasant's Art Walk Central, and has participated in Grand Rapids' ArtPrize numerous times, where New York art critic Jerry Saltz called her "a true artist.” She remains open to possibility throughout her creative journey.

STATEMENT
As a contemporary surrealist, I strive to create thought-provoking museum quality artwork to engage and visually transport the viewer. I like to give people a different perspective, whether through tightly cropping or using color to build intensity, intimacy, and mood. I make intentional choices to connect with the viewer. A fresh perspective can deepen compassion and understanding while challenging perception and expectation. I offer dream quality and disconnect, but also display a genuine appreciation for natural, interpersonal, and worldwide connectedness.
While my subject matter incorporates figurative work with abstract realism of nature, I consistently draw inspiration from life. An emerging story develops throughout my creative process, allowing for secondary images. I sometimes design within a textured background or scraped base layer, potentially causing tension through obscurity. It's as if one is in a confusing dream state with inability to focus. Nuance rewards the lingering, thoughtful viewer. Our lives and personal stories mimic what we see in nature; hope, life, growth, dormancy, and death. When one steps back to see the whole picture, there can be a genuine appreciation for the connectedness of the world around us.

DESIGN WORK
As a Designer I have created for fashion, print, and marketing material. Whether the design is for canvas, fabric, or paper applications, the necessary planning and execution, challenges and motivates me. The process is usually the larger part of the battle.
Great design is timeless! It's incredible to look at my past designs and to find that they are still relevant today.

A GRAND ZOOLOGICAL FANTASY
On December 13th, 2018, Forest Hills Northern High School Orchestra (under the leadership of Director, Dr. Mark Kotchenruther), and Rosanne Coty, Artist/Designer (Sponsor) presented The Carnival of the Animals. It was a one-night only production that featured Rosanne's artwork in poster, program, slide, and set decoration form. Mrs. Coty worked with students to paint the props, and the slideshow featured artwork from students from the feeder elementary schools in addition to her own.
It was a wonderful collaboration between professionals and students!
