I got a tremendous amount of satisfaction from my design work. Whether for print, fabric, or screen applications; the necessary planning and execution challenged and motivated me. The process is usually the larger part of the battle!
My design work has included Original and Disney Licensed graphics, fabric prints and embellishment for children’s apparel at H. H. Cutler. Fashions were sold at JCPenney, Kohls, Target, and many more.
My artwork has been in recognized and displayed in National Competitions, ARTPRIZE (2016, '15, '13, '11), ArtWalk Central Competitions, The UICA, Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts, Lowell Gallery, Frames Unlimited, Parade of Homes, The Society of Illustrators in NYC, as well as 5 Scholastic Art Shows.
As a Commissioned Artist, I have created fine art, murals and marketing material for businesses and private collectors.
My complex mural, Hidden Room, was featured in a Grand Rapids Parade of Home wine cellar.
Keeping active throughout the community, I have worked with numerous Michigan organizations including The Scleroderma Foundation, the Humane Society, churches, school groups, orchestras, scout troops, robotic and sport teams. Including, but not limited to:
Designing logos, advertising, booklets, cards, posters and clothing.
Acting as a Creative Director: designing sets and assisting with props for four children's theater productions.
Working with children: mentoring and leading them in art workshops, and encouraging their artistic skills and creativity.
The Hurdlers my pen & ink cross-hatching that was recognized by the American Society of Illustrators in its National Scholarship Competition. The piece was published in both their 31st Design Annual and student publications. It was also displayed in New York City.
As a student, I won two Scholastic Art Honors; The Hurdlers, featuring Carl Lewis, (shown below from Kendall), was printed in The Society of Illustrators’ 31st Design Annual, and a Gold Key Award for Jungle Cat.. Both pieces were Pen and Ink, at the time, my favorite medium.
