My Branching Out Series started during the Pandemic. Quarantine limited halted my figurative work with no people to model.
As a result, I spent more time in nature, and I was inspired to create all of the work seen below.

As I spent more time in nature, I became inspired by river landscapes, forests, trees and their roots. I drew parallels with people's roots, growth and outreach. I began painting what grounds us. People's lives intertwine and branch out, mimicking what is seen in nature; life, hope, development, dormancy, and death. A fresh perspective can increase understanding, compassion, or renew respect for our world. Now when I see twisted branches and roots, I cannot help but think of the shelter provided in their tangled embrace like the arms of a loved one. I appreciate support systems that develop and interconnect. Sometimes our roots can trip us up. Looking back and seeing the whole picture, our tangled lives are often messy, but beautiful.
Silviculture is the art and science of controlling the establishment, growth, composition, health, and quality of forests and woodlands for society, wildlife, and wood production on a sustainable basis. It involves humans making decisions about nature. Both my Branching Out Series and Silvi-(Un)Cutured celebrate the beauty of the WILD!
