TRIP OF OUR YOUTH:
My intent was to create a series of paintings that celebrate children and their spirit of fun and joy. Three young, individual children are featured on a grand scale, stressing the importance of children within our society. Subtle cloud background conveys images related to each child's life. As a reward to the patient viewer, each painting contains a hidden word. The word puzzle engages a sense of play. Clues are in the individual titles of the paintings.
Sensitive to the fact that not everyone has a happy childhood, I tried to capture a care-free essence; to create a respite for those who suffer, to share my own feelings of a happy childhood, and to re-create the fun of imagining shapes within clouds. Each painting stands on its own, but celebrates diversity when together. The name, "Trip of Our Youth" evolved from the word triptych (three paneled art), also refers to the journey of life. I specifically labeled them "Our Youth", because I hope the viewer feels invested in children and connects with their exuberance for life.

Don't remember seeing Trip of Our Youth during Artprize in 2013?
If you don't remember seeing it, it may be because the city had torn up the park in front of it. There was a crane right in front of my artwork in the windows of The Children's Museum!
My "prime spot" was completely blocked off visually, and there was an awkward fenced in walkway practically hiding my artwork. I took this photo from across the street. The paintings are in the 3rd set of windows (count awnings) from the right, ground floor. Yes, a little frustrating. That's okay, it incited me to enter ArtWalk Central, and win there!
